Ryuk Ransomware Developers Received 705 Bitcoins
Developers of Ryuk ransomware got 705 bitcoins for six month via their program, reports The Block.
Until quite recently, it was supposed that a group of hackers behind Ryuk – GRIM SPIDER – was located in North Korea. However, according to the data of CrowdStrike and McAfee, the program is created and supported by Russian hackers.
Ryuk is spread with the help of email phishing, TrickBot Trojan is used. The main goals of ransomware are major companies and governmental organizations. Ryuk blocks victims’ hard disks until the ransom is paid. As a rule, its amount depends on the size and significance of an organization.
The program is famous for quite considerable amounts of ransoms. At the moment, the smallest ransom amount is 1.7 Btc, the biggest is 99 Btc, note CrowdStrike representatives. GRIM SPIDER earned 705.80 Btc with the help of 52 transactions linked to 37 bitcoin addresses. Note that 705 Btc is worth of approximately $2.6 million according to the current rate.
To recap, according to Skybox Security company’s report, mining viruses became more popular than Trojans.
