Kraken Now Supports Bech32 Addresses For Bitcoins And Qtum
Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken announced support of SegWit addresses in bech32 format for bitcoin and Qtum cryptocurrency.
At the moment, support of addresses in bech32 format is available for withdrawal operations, in the near future it is expected to become available for deposit operations.
Bech32 addresses start with “bc1” and “qc1” for bitcoin and QTUM.
Bech32 was offered by Bitcoin Core developer and is corresponding to the addresses which support transactions with the use of Segregated Witness(SegWit) technology. Bech32 addresses start with “bc1” for bitcoin and “qc1” for Qtum.
To recap, Qtum is developing a new public blockchain which unifies transaction model of bitcoin with Ethereum consensus system. Support of bech32 addresses was implemented by Qtum in October, it was implemented in bitcoin network in June – together with the release of a new version – Bitcoin Core 0.16.1.
According to transactionfee.info data, at the moment, the share of SegWit transactions in bitcoin network is 42,37%.
